Are you dealing with injuries? I have been dealing with a knee injury for the last six months and have finally gotten it to a point where are can start doing some of my favorite workout activities. I ran across this video from Beachbody and thought that is was very timely and decided to share it with you.
I could have used some of this advice about six months ago but better late that never. The video also covers some diet considerations as well as what workouts you can do.
My recovery
For me I waited about 3 months after the injury before I broke down and visited my doctor. He basically grabbed my leg and said "Does this hurt?" Yes!! was my answer. The long and short of it is he told me not to do a martial arts workout (Les Mills Combat) but to ride bike and go for walks.
I would go for walks of about 2 miles and when finished wrap the knee in ice to keep the swelling down. I found that bike riding was less stressful on my knee, so I decided to do more of that.
Eventually my knee started to get stronger and now I am able to take a full stride when I walk and I have started up my Les Mills Combat workouts again. I am not going at it quite as intensely as I was before but I am a week into and the knee still feels good and seems to be getting stronger.
Dealing with injuries: Changes in my routines
I injured my knee doing Yoga, switching between positions, something I normally have no problem doing. It was just one of those freak injuries. Then I got careless and injured the knee further operating my snowblower last winter, I could hardly walk. I used ice, heat, ibuprofen and a knee brace to make it through my day.Now that I am nearing full recovery, I have increased the amount of stretching that I do to make sure my muscles and joints are ready for action and so far so good. I have finished my first week of Les Mills Combat and have had some soreness but the knee is holding up.
I hope the video gives you some ideas on how you can deal with your injuries. My advice to you, be patient and do plenty of stretching (or even some foam rolling).
